Toyota’s offensive in the production of batteries for electric cars

Toyota will invest up to 730,000 million yen (5,263 million euros) in Japan and the United States to produce batteries for electric vehicles.

Of the total, 400,000 million yen (2,883 million euros) will be invested in Japan in the Himeji plant of Prime Planet Energy & Solutions and in the plants and properties of Toyota.

In the United States, approximately 325,000 million yen (2,342 million euros) will be invested in Toyota Battery Manufacturing in North Carolina to increase the production of batteries for automobiles.

The Japanese manufacturer, which expects to start production between 2024 and 2026, will increase its combined battery production capacity in Japan and the United States by up to 40 gigawatt-hours (GWh).

Likewise, Toyota also intends to strengthen its competitiveness and invest in the training of personnel dedicated to battery production and in the transmission of manufacturing skills.

This investment is intended to enable the carmaker to flexibly meet the needs of its different customers in all countries and regions, offering multiple powertrains and providing as many options as possible.
