We have been waiting for months and it has finally happened. The Volkswagen Amarok 2023 It has just been officially launched. The new German pick-up is launched on the market under the umbrella of a transoceanic alliance that provides it with the most powerful weapons to carry out its activity. Although it will not reach dealerships until the end of the year, we already know almost all the details that can be known about it, although it remains to be known when and how the 100% electric version will be, in which Volkswagen has already confirmed that it is working.
In such a globalized world, alliances are our daily bread. Volkswagen and Ford have established a very important agreement. In it the Germans benefit from the American experience in the development of light industrial vehicles and in the field of pick-up trucks. The Americans in turn will take advantage of the electric field with the use of Volkswagen’s MEB platform. A new wave of European products based on electrical architecture will soon become a reality.
Returning to the Volkswagen Amarok, it must be recognized that the pick-up has gained a physical presence with the union with Ford. Thanks to a conventional chassis of stringers and crossbars, the rectangular lines give it a physical power that we did not know in the first edition designed by Walter de Silva. It does not copy anything from the rest of the range in design, although it must be recognized that in the Volkswagen ranks there is nothing that resembles the Amarok, neither in concept nor in size.
With 5.35 meters long, 1.91 meters wide, 1.88 meters high and 3.27 meters wheelbase, Volkswagen expands the dimensions and capabilities of its pick-up. Two different formats will be offered: single cabin or double cabin, which will make it possible to expand or reduce the box size, between 1.54 and 2.3 meters long, allowing up to 1.16 tons of payload. For off-road driving, there is an all-wheel drive with reduction gear and a wading depth that goes from 50 to 80 centimeters.
From doors to inside it wins in quality and technological presentation. In this section Volkswagen has not wanted to differ much from the Ford Ranger, the sister model. The presence of large digital panels stands out. The multimedia system has a vertical screen with a size between 10 and 12 inchesyes Next to it a digital box with 12, inches in size. The equipment has improved, being able to count on elements such as LED matrix headlights, wheels up to 21 inches, and an outstanding load of driving assistants.
As for the mechanical part, for the moment only the diesel and gasoline versions have been communicated, but in the future the most sustainable unit of all will arrive. A Volkswagen Amarok EV will join the family to join the emerging market for electric pick-ups. For now It has not been detailed what the main features will be, although we do know that it will be launched throughout 2024 with an electrical assembly derived from the Ford F-150 Lightning. I really want to see it.
