Little by little we are getting to know more details about Polestar’s future strategy. The Swedish electric car firm has ambitious plans in sight. The Polestar 2 already garners as many good reviews as sales, and will soon have the presence of a model superior to it in size and features. The Polestar 3 will be on sale next year and now, thanks to an announcement from its CEO, Thomas Ingenlath, we know that it will start at an approximate price of 75,000 eurosalthough it can be much more expensive.
As the rules of arithmetic dictate, after 2 comes 3. With no apparent sense of size correlation, Polestar will expand its fleet of products over the next few years. The Polestar 3 will be officially presented in October of this year, as we already told you. After him, the arrival of the Polestar 4 is scheduled, which will become the most economical model of the brand, and the Polestar 5, which will be the high-performance sedan that will have to stand up to models as important as the Porsche Taycan.
And it is that in Polestar they have a particular fixation with the sports German manufacturer. The Swedes want to position themselves alongside one of the big companies on the market, and that is why its executive director has stated that the Polestar 3 wants to stand up to the Porsche Cayenne. Although the statement may be somewhat excessive, it allows us to find out some particularities of the large SUV, such as that it will be over five meters in size with an interior capacity of up to seven passengers spread over three rows of seats.
Unlike the German SUV, Polestar wants to offer a more affordable electric product. Ingenlath himself has commented that the price range of the Polestar 3 will be between 75,000 and 110,000 euros, a significantly lower cost than the Cayenne. The final prices will be announced in October, at which time the range of finishes and mechanics will be fully detailed. Given the wide price range, it is to be expected multiple drive units with different types of battery that will show a range of approximately 600 kilometers in the WLTP cycle.
Regarding its manufacture, the Polestar 3 will be manufactured in two parallel assembly lines, one in the American town of Charleston, in the State of South Carolina, and also in China, at the main plant in Chengdu, where they expect to produce more than 50,000 Polestar 2 units before the end of this year. Like this, the large SUV will be supported by the house’s SPA2 platform, a modular platform capable of adapting to different bodies and sizes.
The Swedes have high expectations for the Polestar 3, placing it as one of the key pieces of the firm. The goal for 2023 is to sell 124,000 cars worldwide, of which they expect some 24,000 units to correspond to the largest SUV.. Over the years they hope to expand the sales volume, up to 67,000 units in 2024 and up to 77,000 in 2025. As for the Polestar O2, the CEO has acknowledged that they would like to add it to the business plan, but that they have not yet They have made a firm decision on the matter.
