The third generation of the BMW X1 has already been presented, becoming the most electrified generation in history. The best-selling model of BMW get a mechanical fan capable of adapting to any need or client. With exclusively thermal and electric versions, the plug-in hybrid versions are presented as a highly valued intermediate alternative. Its new scheme allows it to offer better ranges of autonomy with a more adjusted consumption.
Externally, the plug-in hybrid versions of the new X1 hardly differ from the rest of the range. for this generation the popular compact SUV has gained presence with the addition of pronounced wheel arches and multiple ribs that run throughout the car. The horizontal lines of the rear stand out to generate that feeling of width and packaging that SUVs boast so much. The rest of the design is completed with sets of wheels between 18 and 20 inches.
For this new generation the BMW X1 grows in size, reaching 4.5 meters long, 1.84 meters wide and 1.64 meters high. The wheelbase also grows to 2.72 meters (5 cm more). All of that translates into a more spacious interior with seating for up to five passengers. Regarding load capacity, BMW has announced the trunk volume of the electric versions, 490 liters, and of the thermal versions, 540 liters, but has not reported on the matter of the plug-in hybrid variants, although we imagine that it will have a volume intermediate between both units.
The X1 has not only changed in aesthetics and dimensions, it also presents a broader technological offer. The list of details is long, although it is worth highlighting elements such as: LED matrix headlights, double curved panel system on the dashboard, BMW 8 operating system, parking cameras, sunroof, electric front seats with massage function, access and start without key, navigator, connected services, and a complete security package and driving assistants with level 2 autonomous driving.
Coming to the mechanical part, the new plug-in hybrid versions manage to improve the performance levels of the previous generation. At the moment two versions have been presented: X1 xDrive25e with 245 hp and X1 xDrive30e with 326 hp. At the moment there is no specific data regarding the size of the battery, although it is possible to imagine that the figure will be very similar to what we can see in the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer PHEV, which has a size of 14.2 kWh of useful capacity. . Thanks to it you can count on electric autonomies between 78 and 89 kilometers.
Although the new X1 has just become official, the marketing stage will not start until the last quarter of the year. Production will take place in Germany, at the Regensburg plant. Before the start of sales we will know the sale prices, although figures slightly higher than the current ones can be expected. Approximately 48 or 50 thousand euros as a starting point. A slightly lower cost than the BMW iX1, the first 100% electric version in the history of the range.
