Stellantis gives the sorpasso surpassing Tesla in sales of electric cars in the first half

Carlos Tavares is in luck. Its strategy of electric launches has managed to make the Stellantis Group one of the largest sellers of electric cars in Europe during the first half of 2022. The French group has managed to unseat Tesla from second position thanks to a commercial offer that focuses mainly on the smallest segments of the market. The FIAT 500e has been the best-selling electric of the group during the first six months of the year.

Until not long ago, Tesla had firmly dominated the electricity market in Europe. Its Tesla Model Y and Tesla Model 3 have been the great dominators of the industry in the old continent in the first half of the year where production has fallen slightly, largely due to stoppages in factories in China. From January to June, the American manufacturer registered a total of 78,277 unitsHowever, if we talk about data by model, the Model Y and Model 3 were the best sellers, although sales of the saloon have fallen by 25%.

Keep in mind that Stellantis has several brands to its credit. Opel, Citroën, Peugeot, DS and FIAT are the most commercial of all of them, and thanks to this distribution, the sum of its electrics has made the group rise to second place. The leaders of the conglomerate have been: FIAT 500e (32,315 units), Peugeot e-208 (21,918 units), Opel Corsa-e (13,380 units), Peugeot e-2008 (11,650 units), Citroën ë-C4 ( 11,159 units) and DS 3 Crossback (1,104 units). Adding all of them, plus some additional units from other models, the Stellantis Group has ended the first half of the year with a total of 105,413 electric vehicles registered.

The Skoda Enyaq is the best-selling electric of the entire Volkswagen Group

Nevertheless, the great seller of the market has been once again the Volkswagen Group. The Germans continue to hold the lead in the electric category thanks also to the sum of various brands: Volkswagen, Skoda, Audi and CUPRA are the ones that add the most, although Porsche’s contribution with the Taycan must also be taken into account. During the first six months Volkswagen has managed to place a total of 116,073 units on the market. The best-selling model of the group has been the Skoda Enyaq, registering total sales of 19,951 units.

The second quarter has been the one that has completely marked the future of the first half of the year. From April to June Stellantis has managed to overtake Tesla with a good handful of sales. 60,560 units registered compared to 25,140 units registered by the North American company. Volkswagen managed to stay ahead, albeit by a narrow margin with respect to its French rivals, 67,760 sales signed by them. Looking ahead to the second half of the year, doubts are triggered by the increase in inflation and the warning of a recession throughout the euro zone.
