Siemens invests in the development of wireless charging for electric cars

Wireless charging technology for electric cars is presented as a goldmine for the wireless future of these vehicles. There are many different patents and tests by different companies in this regard. Now the technology Siemens has announced an investment of 25 million dollars in WiTricity to accelerate the development of these wireless charging solutions, which is presented as the next step for electric vehicles marketed worldwide.

This has come on numerous occasions as part of future tests under the road itself, or in parking spaces optimized for electric cars, such is the case of Volvo and its development on XC40 Recharge units adapted to taxis in the Swedish city of Gothenburg .

This collaboration between Siemens and WiTricity, in addition to increasing the pace of development of this technology, it will also aim to close the gap of universal standardization of this comfort, something that we were able to talk about here almost two years ago. Additionally, once progress is made in the project they hope to reach multiple agreements with other companies that would be in charge of the manufacture of said utensilas well as other companies that were in charge of the distribution and installation of the necessary infrastructure.

The mechanism of this wireless charging will consist of a charging platform installed on the floor or pavement of the space dedicated to the parking of electric cars, while a receiving coil is located on the underside of the model in the vehicle itself. Between said ground platform and vehicle module an exchange of energy is carried out by means of a magnetic field once both devices are aligned.

This is a technology with great prospects for the future, since once the technology of autonomous cars is fully integrated into everyday life, there should already be a real alternative to recharging cables, since there will be no humans around them who can plug it in to recharge its batteries, so this technology has great things in store for years to come.
