Shell buys 100% of Cable Energía, the Spanish operator of recharging points

Shell España SA has acquired 100% of Cable Energía, the Spanish operator of recharging points for electric vehicles. This acquisition will allow Shell to expand its offer for drivers with fast recharging services for electric vehicles and electric fleets on route and destination in Spain and Portugal.

Headquartered in Seville, Spain, Cable Energía is an electric mobility infrastructure company that aims to become one of the largest providers of recharging services for electric vehicles powered by renewable energy in Spain and Portugal.

The company was founded in 2018 by Jesús Nieto and Ignacio López, two engineers with extensive international experience in energy markets and infrastructure, who will continue to lead the company.

The acquisition and additional investment from Shell will allow the company to accelerate the deployment of charging points for electric vehicles from Cable Energía in Spain and Portugal, important automotive markets in Europe.

Cable Energía currently has 80 recharging points installed in Spain and Portugal, which join the Shell network with nearly 20,000 public recharging points worldwide, and aspires to be a leading provider of electric vehicle charging services in both markets.

Currently, Shell offers solutions for recharging homes, workplaces and car parks in Spain through Shell Recharge Solutions. In addition, with the Shell Recharge app, customers have access to a wide public charging network in Spain, Portugal and 33 other European countries through a roaming service.
