The most luxurious electric SUV from Mercedes-Benz is already preparing its landing on the market, starting with Germany as it could not be otherwise. The brand has announced the prices of the Mercedes EQS SUV for the German market, which gives us the first clues as to how much this new model will cost in the Spanish market. As you may already be imagining, it will not be within everyone’s reach.
At launch, the Mercedes EQS SUV range will consist of three versions: EQS 450+, EQS 450 4Matic and EQS 580 4Matic. The former has rear-wheel drive while the latter two offer 4Matic all-wheel drive. The performance figures vary depending on the engine, but the battery is the same in all cases: a pack of 108.4 kWh of usable capacity. It is the same battery as in the EQS saloon, although in this case a little more than the installed capacity is used.
In terms of technology, equipment and level of finishes, the EQS SUV is one of the highest that Mercedes makes today. It is also one of his largest cars, with a body that measures 5125mm long by 2,157 mm wide and 1,718 mm high. Optionally, it can be equipped with a third row of seats to be able to carry a total of 7 passengers inside.
Versions and prices of the Mercedes EQS SUV
The price of the EQS SUV in Germany starts at 110,658 euros for the 450+ version, which is about 3,300 euros more than the EQS sedan with the same engine. Below are the prices of the EQS SUV range for the German market:
- EQS 450+ SUV: 110,658 euros
- EQS 450 4Matic SUV: 114,446 euros
- EQS 580 4Matic SUV: 135,291 euros
This model can now be ordered in Germany and will start reaching the first European customers in December. The EQS SUV will be manufactured in Tuscaloosa, United States, with neutral carbon emissions.
At the plant in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Mercedes-Benz large SUVs are produced for the entire world. Namely: Mercedes GLE and GLE Coupé, Mercedes GLS and Mercedes-Maybach GLS. Starting in 2022, the two new electric SUVs from the German firm will be added, the EQS SUV and the EQE SUV, their brother little.
Taking into account the price difference compared to the EQS sedan, we can expect the EQS SUV to have a starting price around 123,000 euros in Spain for version 450+. For the top-of-the-range version, the EQS 580 4Matic SUV, a price from approximately 140,000 euros can be expected.
Up to 664 kilometers of autonomy in the EQS 450+ version
As we said, there will be a rear-wheel drive version and two with all-wheel drive. The one that offers the greatest autonomy is, logically, the version with simple traction, since it has lower energy consumption. The EQS 450+ SUV homologates 664 kilometers of autonomy, with a combined consumption of 18.2 kWh/100 km according to the WLTP cycle. This version has 360 hp (265 kW) and 568 Nm of torque.
The EQS 450 4Matic has two electric motors and all-wheel drive, but the maximum power is the same, 360 horsepower. The torque, however, increases to 800 Nm. The autonomy in this case is slightly above 600 kilometers.
The EQS 580 4Matic has 544 hp and 858 Nm of torque. This version approves 602 kilometers of autonomy in the WLTP cycle and does 0-100 km/h in 4.6 seconds, being the fastest in the range -at least until the arrival of the AMG versions-. In all cases, the maximum charging power in direct current is 200 kW, which allows a recharge from 10 to 80% in 31 minutes.
There will be three equipment lines at an aesthetic level: standard exterior and Electric Art Line interior; exterior and interior Electric Art; and AMG Line exterior and interior. And as usual in the brand, Mercedes-Benz has grouped other important equipment in five packages called Advanced, Advanced Plus, Premium, Premium Plus and Business Class. Its availability will depend on each version. How could it be otherwise, apart from the packages there are still extra options that can be chosen individually.
Among the optional equipment we find the Head-up Display with augmented reality; the huge Hyperscreen display (standard on the EQS 580 4Matic); Burmester 3D-Surround-Soundsystem sound equipment; infotainment package for the rear seats with two individual screens; the MBUX interior assistant with recognition of movement of the head, hands and body language; the third row of seats with two individual seats; trailer maneuvering assistant; or the front grille with Mercedes-Benz pattern.
Standard includes, among many other things: EASY Pack tailgate with electrical opening/closing; Airmatic air suspension; electric, heated and memory front seats; second row of seats with electric adjustment; active parking assistant; and DISTRONIC Adaptive Cruise Control with Active Lane Keeping Assist and Evasive Steering Assist.
