New Citroën ë-C4 X, an electric car that mixes segments and that will be manufactured in Spain

Citroën has presented a new electric car designed on the Citroen C4. Its about Citroën ë-C4 X, which combines, on the one hand, the crossover design of the model on which it is based, and on the other, a three-volume body that brings it closer to the saloon segment. In addition, it is a model of special interest for Spain, since it will not only be marketed in our country but also Stellantis has chosen the Villaverde factory in Madrid for its production.

Like the conventional electric C4, the ë-C4 X is based on Stellantis’ modular platform for electric cars called eCMPwhich although originally designed to shape B-segment electric cars, this time manages to support a C-segment model with 4.60 meters longwhile maintaining a wheelbase of 2.62 meters, the same as that of the compact model.

From the five-door ë-C4 it also inherits, as is the norm in Stellantis, the same electrical scheme, which is articulated around a 400 V system voltage. Its main component is the battery, which with a capacity of 50 gross kWh (46 net kWh) manages to offer autonomy based on the WLTP cycle of up to 360 kilometers.

The electric motor is also borrowed from the ë-C4, Corsa-e and other models. It is placed on the front axle, providing traction to it, and has a power of 100 kW (136 hp). Thanks to this propellant, the ë-C4 X achieves a zero to one hundred in 9.5 seconds in Sport mode, while the maximum speed is limited to 150 kilometers per hour.

One of the main attributes of the ë-C4 X with respect to the conventional ë-C4 is found in its trunksince the ë-C4 X increases its capacity up to 510 liters, which is a striking leap from the 380-litre compact ë-C4. However, and although it might seem so from the shapes of its bodywork, the ë-C4 X has a cfour door rice cooker instead of one of five, since the rear glass is not part of the access to the trunk.

Even with this, the ë-C4 X is postulated as an interesting alternative to fleets of companies and taxis thanks to its load capacity, which far exceeds any other C segment. For example, the recently presented hybrid Honda Civic, which has a Similar in length to that of the ë C4 X, it has a 410-litre boot capacity.

In terms of charging times and powers, the ë-C4 X offers the maximum of what the eCMP platform is capable of. This means that with a fast enough charging point, the ë-C4 X will be able to charge at 100 kW, which at peak times will mean about 10 kilometers per minute of charging, being able to complete 80% battery in 30 minutes. For home charging, you will need 7.5 hours to charge with single-phase power or 5 hours with three-phase power and the optional 11kW on-board charger.
