Forget the Model X, the Drako Dragon will be the most radical electric SUV on the market

When we think that there is no more SUV on the market, a new one arrives to surprise us all. The name Drako Motors may not ring a bell, but it is one of the companies born from the commercial electric current. With a few years of experience, we now present the Drako Dragon, an electric SUV that threatens to be one of the most radical beasts in the electric market. It will be able to make a fool of the Tesla Model X and many others thanks to its high-power electrical scheme.

In the past we have known Drako Motors for the GTE. In 2019, the company founded in California presented its first model to the world, which they wanted to call GTE. With an array of four electric motors, the electric supercar generated power of up to 1,200 horsepower., which was more than enough to reach a top speed of 332 kilometers per hour and acceleration from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in less than three seconds. Only 25 were produced at a price of over one million euros.

Last year Drako already announced that it was going to launch a second model, also sporty, but in this case in a format that is rarely associated with sportsmanship; an SUV. The Dragon leaves behind the 4-door sedan body of the GTE to show a more commercial format, although it will also offer some of the features of its predecessor. At the moment only a few teasers have been shown, but it is clear that the image will be as powerful as the force of the electrical system.

Above all, the gull-wing style doors stand out, which are very reminiscent of the Model X. We do not know if it is the front or rear doors, although everything seems to indicate that they are the previous ones. With a relatively high ground clearance, rather typical of a crossover, the Drako Dragon will sport a lot of aerodynamic elements that will help it achieve really exaggerated performance figures. At the rear, very clean and simple lines are anticipated, although the appearance of the headlights is quite reminiscent of a BMW X6.

But let’s get to the heart of the matter. In its entrails, the Drako Dragon shows a set of four engines supported by the DriveOS platform of the house. With a total power output of 1,491 kW, 2,000 horsepower, it will be able to do 0 to 60 mph in just 1.9 seconds., which puts him in the orbit of the Tesla Model S Plaid. At the moment it has not been announced what type of battery it carries or what capacity or autonomy it has. We have not been able to see the interior either, but Drako Motors has reported that the price of this unit will be much more “popular”, which will allow it to compete against other models such as the Lotus Specter or any luxury or high-performance SUV.
