Energica Experia, an electric motorcycle for long trips with the benefits of a Model 3

The Italian Energica focused its offer of electric motorcycles on very sporty models. Now, leaving its traditional catalog attack the road segment with the Experia, a trail bike that ensures that it is the ideal companion for long trips. The ergonomic design and specifications of the new Energica motorcycle reveal its intentions: reduce weight, improve balance and facilitate handling, without sacrificing the house’s signature sensations

Of the race to the roadEnergica’s line of electric motorcycles takes a historic turn with the presence in its catalog of the experience, which surprises its followers with the presentation of its first electric trail bike. A model that goes out of line Eve and the Egothe two sports bikes of the brand, in such a way that it even uses a new chassis, a new front frame formed by a tubular steel lattice and aluminum side plates and a cast aluminum swingarm.

The Energica Experia employs a new chassis and front frame made up of a tubular steel trellis and aluminum side plates and a cast aluminum swingarm.

With this new motorcycle, the Italian manufacturer has sought a different customer who appreciates the pleasure of traveling as far as possible and in the most comfortable way that a two-wheeled vehicle can offer. Therefore, Energica has made an effort to achieve three goals key when designing the Experia from scratch. The first of these is to reduce weight, which is 260 kilograms. The weight distribution of the components manages to improve the balance of the whole and facilitates ride comfort and ease of handling. A lower, more centered center of gravity allows for better low-speed handling.

Energica has optimized the Experia to configure a two-seater motorcycle that sports a sporty, aerodynamic fairing, adjustable windshields and ample luggage capacity, all of which are features that lovers of mileage demand. The bulky hard side cases and top case have a total capacity of 112 liters.

Energica has made an effort to reduce and distribute weight, improving the balance of the whole and facilitating ride comfort and ease of handling thanks to a lower and centered center of gravity that allows better driving at low speed.

But this apparent tranquility that appears in the character of the bike does not mean that it does not offer the sensations of an electric vehicle. Because Energica has equipped the Experia with a synchronous reluctance motor with permanent magnets that it develops 60 kW (80 hp) of rated power and up to 75 kW (100 hp) of peak power realized in a torque output of no less than 900 Nm. Although they are not figures as overwhelming as those given by sports motorcycles, the benefits of the Experia have nothing to envy to those of the competition. It is capable of developing a maximum speed of 180km/h and accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.5 secondsalmost as fast as a Tesla Model 3 Performance, which does it in 3.3 seconds.

At his disposal, the pilot of the Energica Experia has seven driving modes, four predefined and three configurable to your liking. It is also possible to select between four different levels of energy regeneration that allow the engine to retain more or less depending on the traffic situation or the layout of the road.

The lithium-ion battery that powers the Experia’s engine has a useful capacity of 9.6 kWh, equipped with a fast direct current recharge system under the European CCS protocol.

The lithium ion battery that powers the Experia’s engine has a capacity of 22.5 kWh gross of which 19.6 kWh are useful. The firm guarantees 1,200 charge and discharge cycles while conserving 80% of this capacity. With it, in the WMTC standardized consumption and emission homologation cycle specific for motorcycles, it reaches the 222 kilometers of autonomy. On this figure, the manufacturer announces 208 kilometers of autonomy circulating in road conditions and 420 kilometers circulating in urban environments.

An electric motorcycle like this, designed for long trips, could not do without a fast recharge system in direct current under the European CCS protocol. The manufacturer has not specified the power that it can reach, although it is to be assumed that it is around 30 kW, given the size of the battery. For linked or opportunity recharging, the on-board charger allows a maximum power of 3 kW in single-phase alternating current.

Other notable features are the front suspension ZF Sachs Ø43mm, 150mm travel, adjustable preload, rebound and compression and a ZF Sachs rear shock with 55mm travel, 150mm wheel travel, adjustable rebound and preload. The drive chain is Regina, (16/52) 520 O-Ring Chain. The brakes with ABS system are formed by the front with double 330 mm diameter floating discs actuated by 4-piston radial calipers. Likewise, the rear brake is Brembo with a simple disc, 240 mm in diameter and a 2-piston caliper.

For now, Energica supports advance ordersundone no indication of the pricewhich will be announced on June 1 at the company’s website.
