CUPRA has a unique journey ahead of it. Last night the Spanish brand presented its line of attack for the coming years. After having confirmed the launch of two SUVs for the year 2024, much of the attraction was captured by the CUPRA Urban Rebel. An urban crossover with a unique design that will be launched on the market with 100% electric mechanics and will be positioned as an alternative to the Volkswagen ID.1 and the Skoda Elroq, whose name is already unofficial but not official thanks to a leak by the company itself. Czech.
But focusing on the UrbanRebel, this is not the first time we have seen it. CUPRA has been announcing its arrival for a long time. Previously we have been able to see it with a very radical and sporty appearance. On this occasion, the CEO of the company, Wayne Griffiths, has presented us with a much more discreet model focused on the final sale.. Although it has lost much of its aesthetic aggressiveness, the lines of the future CUPRA UrbanRebel already seem defined to a high percentage.
As was the case with the prototypes prior to the launch of the CUPRA Bornthe Spanish brand is not very likely to radically change the presentation, taking those prototypes to production models. It will be launched in 2025 after the start-up of the CUPRA Terramar and CUPRA Tavascan. Unlike these, the small UrbanRebel will use an exclusively electric mechanics supported by the smallest dedicated platform of the Volkswagen Group, the front-wheel drive MEB architecture.
With a length measurement of 4.03 meters long, the CUPRA UrbanRebel enters the segment of electric utility vehicles, which is clearly supposed to be the natural replacement for the SEAT Ibiza. Within its concept of sustainability, the small crossover will use a large number of recycled and bio-based materials, as well as manufacturing methods using 3D printing, mainly intended for a cabin that will stand out for its minimalism and extensive digitalization.
Regarding the mechanical part, CUPRA has already given the first touches of its performance. Although no specific battery capacity data has been specified, the only motor of the UrbanRebel will be able to offer up to 226 horsepowerwhich translates into an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.9 seconds and a autonomy of up to 440 kilometers in its Range version. More mundane units that reduce power and range are expected to arrive, though no details on those have yet been released.
As we have already said, the CUPRA UrbanRebel will see the light of day in 2025. It will be manufactured at the Martorell plant. From the brand they assure that it will be the car that democratizes urban electric mobility, so sales prices of around 20 or 25 thousand euros can be expected in their access versions, maybe even less. Little by little we will know more details of this electric. For that year, renewals of the current CUPRA Born, CUPRA León and CUPRA Formentor are also expected.
