It is the so-called Audi S1 e-tron quattro Hoonitron, designed and built specifically for Ken Block and his traditional “Gymkanas”. The model itself was presented by the firm of the four rings last December through a series of images on the internet. Now, after several months, they have wanted to take advantage of the massive annual Monterey Car Week event to showcase it to the public for the first time there present.
Ken Block became internationally famous through his impressive drift videos posted on his official YouTube channel and that of the brand that supported him at the time (usually Ford). However, the rally driver signed for Audi to continue his work of putting on a show in heart-stopping productions. For it, the firm with the four rings created for him a new 100% electric model based on historical models of the brandlike the famous Group B of the 80s.
The design of the Audi S1 e-tron quattro Hoonitron was mainly inspired by the Audi Sport quattro S1 from 1987 with which Walter Rohrl completed the climb to the Pikes Peak Hillclimb marking a record time of 10 minutes and 48 seconds. As revealed by Ken Block himself a few months ago, he would have liked to be able to compete to improve that chronohowever, the track changed its route shortly after being marked, so the current rider will have to look for his own marks.
Under its body they hide four electric motors that drive the four wheels of the model. These are supported by a carbon fiber chassis. About the power that these “zero emissions” blocks emanate is a complete mystery since they have not given a specific figure from the company; nevertheless, many secrets of this unique model are expected to be revealed during the California convention. However, the Audi RS Q e-tron with which Carlos Sainz has competed in the Dakar Rally used a dual electric motor scheme and a combined power of 671 CV, so the Ken Block model could even exceed this figure.
During his official presentation, last December, Ken Block himself assured that this is possibly one of the most spectacular models he has seen in his life, since this Audi “combines a lot for what the brand was already famous for in the 80s. I think it’s great that the Audi designers have taken inspiration from their own past and transferred the technologies and appearance to the present.”
The model will be on display at the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion in Laguna Seca during Monterey Car Week. from next August 17 to 21. Along with it, the already mentioned model of the 80s that was driven by Walter Rohrl will also be exhibited. Audi is expected to reveal new details on the specific specifications of its new unique electric model.
