The Chinese manufacturer Aiways is celebrating: two years have passed since its arrival in Europe with the Aiways U5, an electric SUV that has also been sold in Spain since the beginning of this year. Now the brand has announced the arrival date of its next model, the Airways U6.
The proliferation in Europe of car manufacturers from China is an undeniable fact. However, not all are rolling out at the same pace or meeting the same deadlines. Aiways is one of the first to settle in a way would be in our continent with the Aiways U5, which until now is the only model in its range.
The firm has now announced the arrival date of its next model. The Aiways U6 will arrive in Europe (including Spain) in the last quarter of 2022. The Shangrao factory, where the U5 is currently produced, has already been set up to start mass production of the new model, which will hit the market towards the end of this year.
The Airways U6 will be a Coupe-style electric SUV, that is, with a body with more dynamic features, and with a roof line with a pronounced fall in its rear part. At the end of last March, the brand announced the successful completion of tests in extreme cold conditions in the northeastern Chinese province of Heilongjiang, having traveled more than 15,000 kilometers in temperatures even below 30 degrees below zero.
Aiways has not yet announced the details of the Aiways U6 electric drive. We do not know its power or its autonomy, although it could predictably use a scheme identical to its brother, the U5. It is worth remembering that the Aiways U5 is an electric SUV 4.68 meters long with 204 horsepower and a 63 kWh battery that allows it to homologate 410 km of WLTP autonomy. In Spain, the U5 is priced at 40,900 euros (before possible aid from the MOVES III Plan). Predictably, the U6 will be somewhat more expensive, although its price is currently unknown.
Aiways’ strategy is to launch a new model every year for the next few years, all of them electric and with a clear commitment to technology. According to company data, 20,000 European customers have placed an order for the U5. The brand has a model of direct sales to the customer, which in Spain is done online through the Aiways Store, supported in turn by a network of specialized agents in some cities.
